Harvest House is a 14-member co-op situated on a quiet, tree-lined street in Urbana. The house is a short walk from the University of Illinois campus and downtown Urbana. Our co-op offers home-cooked, healthy, vegetarian and vegan friendly dinners. The kitchen underwent major remodeling in 2011 and now features stainless steel sinks and countertops.
Bedrooms
Our large, three-story house with a finished basement has 14 fully furnished rooms with telephone, cable TV, and both cable and wireless internet. There are ¾ bathrooms on every floor, with a tub on the third floor. The average room rents for about $300 per month, plus an additional $115 for food and $60 for utilities. The house has two parking spaces for $10 per month; otherwise, a slightly more expensive city sticker is needed for street side parking.
Amenities
Common spaces include a kitchen, pantry, dining room, living room, laundry room, entertainment room, storage closets, and a garage. We also have a house computer with shared printing, bike rack, and a washer and dryer. Smoking is not allowed inside the house. We have some pets and consider new pets on a case by case basis.
Labor
Harvest house is self-sufficient; that is, house members are responsible for all maintenance projects, collecting rent and bills, buying and cooking food, and generally solving any house related issues. For more information, or if you think you might like to join us, e-mail our membership coordinator, or fill out interest form. As members, we meet regularly using modified consensus (i.e. all but one) to make decisions about our house, such as membership, upkeep, and food preferences.
Members
Harvest is comprised of mostly graduate and undergraduate students. However, house members come from all corners of the world and encompass a variety of cultural backgrounds. Many Harvest members become friends and do things together outside the house.
Connections
Harvest is one of four houses in the Urbana cooperative system. It is a member of NASCO – the North American Students of Co-operation, and is among eleven fellow houses across the US that forms NASCO Properties.
